Project Inclusion has called upon the payments industry to do more to reduce the number of financially excluded individuals in the UK. In a Hot Topic Briefing on Social Sustainability & Financial Inclusion, Project Inclusion Lead and EPA Member Individual of the Year Steve Shirley called upon the payments industry to aim to get the number of financially excluded below one million by late 2019. A recent University of Birmingham report noted that the number of adults without access to a current or basic bank account is around 1.52 million.
